How do you define Change Management?

Change Management is a structured approach to transitioning individuals, teams, and organisations from a current state to a desired future state

We often use the phrase:

“Enabling people to be ready, willing and able”

Why use Change Management?

The business case for it comes from one simple line of logic:

Projects produce deliverables (e.g. systems, processes, equipment)
Change Management prepares people to use the deliverables and use them well
Organisations invest in projects to get benefits and the benefits will not be achieved unless people are using the deliverables and using them well.

So, Change Management helps organisations to realise benefits and avoid the unnecessary costs and risks of poorly used deliverables.

A 2002 McKinsey study showed that the Return on Investment for a project was over four times higher when Change Management was included in the initiative.

Do I need to know about PRINCE2 before I study Change Management?

What is PRINCE2?

PRINCE2® (Projects in Controlled Environments 2nd Version) is a method for running projects. It is adaptable to any size or type of project. It is widely used in over 100 countries and is appropriate for many types and sizes of organisation.

PRINCE2, when taught and applied intelligently, is an excellent project management methodology. It is widely used here in New Zealand and in over 100 other countries.

No prior experience is necessary.

Who should do the PRINCE2 Practitioner course?

It is a requirement that candidates for the Practitioner course must have already passed the Foundation course.

This course is suitable for anyone who wants to gain a deeper understanding of PRINCE2 and how to apply it. It is particularly recommended for professional Project Managers.

Who owns PRINCE2?

PRINCE2

PRINCE2 is owned by AXELOS which is a joint venture between the UK government and a business organisation.

Project Laneways and our trainers are accredited by APMG (The UK Association of Project Managers Group) which is an Exam Institute licensed by AXELOS to provide exams and accreditation. APMG also accredits the Change Management qualification offered by Project Laneways.

Are there any recommended PRINCE2 text or study books?

PRINCE2

There are a variety of PRINCE2 study book available. The official book that supports PRINCE2 6th Edition is "Managing Successful Projects with PRINCE2" by AXELOS. It was published in 2017 and it's ISBN is 9780 1133 1533 8. AZELOS also publishes the PRINCE2 Foundation App, a companion app to help you study for and practice your Foundation exam.

PRINCE2 Qualifications

PRINCE2

There are two levels of qualification available in New Zealand. They are:

Foundation (based on a 1 hour multiple choice exam) - 50% pass mark.
Practitioner (based on a 2.5 hour multiple choice exam) - 55% pass mark

Project Laneways offers qualifications at both levels in Prince2 and Prince2 Agile.

Isn’t PRINCE2 just for IT?

PRINCE2

No.

It’s suitable for all types of projects, including but not limited to:

new services
new products
marketing projects
process design and implementation
events
policy development
research projects

And, yes, it also works with many types of IT projects.

Isn’t PRINCE2 just for government?

PRINCE2

No.

It’s suitable for all types of organisations. For instance, it’s actively being used in:

Small companies
Publicly listed corporations
Global corporations
The manufacturing sector
The finance sector
Telecommunications, publishing, media and service sectors
The education sector
The health sector

How do I go about taking the PRINCE2 examinations?

The exams are available as part of the training courses provided by Project Laneways (a PRINCE2 Accredited Training Organisation).

Where can I get sample exam papers?

As part of either the Foundation or Practitioner courses you will receive relevant sample exam packs that include practice exams.

NOTE: The internet is full of sample PRINCE2 and other courses papers. Unless these have been offered by an Accredited Training Organisation, these papers may be out of date and inaccurate. They can often lead the candidates into misunderstanding the methodology.

How long will it take to get the result of my PRINCE2 examination and certificate?

Project Laneways will send out confirmation of your Foundation exam result within a few days.

Certificate delivery are delivered electronically a few days after you have been notified of your result.

Result advice time for the Practitioner exam should be about two weeks.

How many people pass the PRINCE2 examinations?

PRINCE2

Foundation Examination - The overall international pass rate for Foundation examinations is about 98%. Project Laneways is running at about this average but offers the Project Laneways exam guarantee to provide a resit opportunity for the few that fail.

Practitioner Examination - The overall pass rate for Practitioner examinations is 75%. Project Laneways tends to run above this average and offers the Project Laneways exam guarantee to provide a resit opportunity for the few that fail to pass first time around.

What if I fail the exam?

Our trainers are very experienced as both trainers and project managers. You are almost certain to pass the exam on the first attempt.

What will it cost me?

Do I need to have project management experience?

No.

All our courses have been designed to cater for both experienced Project Managers and newcomers.

Our instructors are expert at presentation methods that keep all levels engaged and able to follow the discussion.

What if I book a course and then need to cancel or postpone it?

If you need to cancel or postpone your course, and give us five business days notice, there will be no charge. For a full explanation of our rules for cancellation and postponement, please see our Terms and Conditions.

What if I start the course but am unable to complete it?

We will make every effort to schedule you into another course to complete the remaining days.

How long do the courses last?

The length depends on the course and is listed on the page for your course. We have courses that last anywhere from half a day to five days.

Do you offer a study at home course?

Project Laneways at this time does not offer an option to study at home but Ace Training offers a variety of virtual and blended courses in Project Management.
